SCI-Arc, CalTech Pasadena Take 6th at Solar Decathlon

CHIP House

SCI-Arc architecture student Dovid Feld has been helping us with the design for our 1951 Spartan trailer.  Hats off to his fellow SCI-Arc compatriots who placed sixth in the Solar Decathlon 2011 competition!

Students from L.A.’s Southern California Insitute of Architecture and Caltech Pasadena placed 6th in the Solar Decathlon 2011 competition at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  Their entry, called CHIP — the Compact, Hyper-Insulated Prototype-  looks like a fluffy pillow draped in sturdy architectural plastic.  To cuts energy costs, twenty inches of  cotton bat insulation was draped on the outside.  Decathlon houses are powered by solar and must create as much energy as they consume.
